COMMITMENT TO CREATING A COMMUNITY FREE FROM RACISM AND EXCLUSION
August 14 2025
Cantori is a New York institution that cherishes the multitude of experiences and realities that comprise our city. We have long embraced and implemented principles of diversity in our programming and operations, yet we are mindful that our field of classical music remains troublingly homogeneous. We recognize that hate and systemic racism are real, and that creating a world of justice and care requires our individual and collective action. Inequity must end.
Cantori New York is committed to opposing ideologies that espouse racism, misogyny, xenophobia and anti-queer rhetoric. We commit to continuous, concrete efforts to imaginatively diversify ever further both our programming and our partnerships. We want to hear and amplify muted voices and see those who are overlooked. We know that beauty, joy and art flourish best when we can freely be our authentic selves. It is in the DNA and ethos of our organization that education precedes change, that knowledge is power, and that music is always part of the solution. New York contains multitudes and Cantori New York is honored to call this place our home and its people our community.
