General inquiries:

Artistic Director, Mark Shapiro:

Cantori rehearses Thursday evenings near Columbia University. To schedule an audition, please email

For your audition, we ask you to prepare one or more classical selections that you particularly like to sing (this can be solo or choral repertoire). We will ask you to sight-read, and do some brief exercises to explore your range and ear. While Cantori prefers experienced readers, we seek out good natural voices and intuitive musicians.

We listen to potential members throughout the year, and maintain a waiting list.

Submit a Score

Cantori New York, a winner of four ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming, is open to inquiries from composers, including submissions of new and recent works. We prefer secular works with interesting texts of high literary quality and originality, for chorus plus 2 to 5 instrumentalists. However, we will review all submissions, including sacred music suitable for concert performance, a cappella works, works accompanied by piano, and music that requires a larger accompanying ensemble. We regret that we cannot consider music composed primarily for religious services.

Print your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address neatly on the score, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like us to return your materials. Please note that our review process typically takes 6 months to 1 year.

We always need additional help to make our concerts successful. Cantori has many volunteer opportunities: ushering, box office, CD sales, helping at benefits and after concert receptions, or making phone calls.

Volunteers get free admission to concerts, so please contact us at if you are interested.
